Create a macOS Bootable USB Installer
Choose your macOS version, download the installer, and create a bootable USB using a ready-to-copy Terminal command or Smart USB Maker.

START WITH YOUR VERSION
Which macOS do you need?
Choose a release compatible with the Mac you want to install it on.

How would you like to create it?

GET THE INSTALLER READY
What did you download?
Use the full installer. An IPSW restore file or a small software-update package cannot replace it.
READY TO CREATE
Create your installer
Open Terminal, paste the command and press Return. Enter your administrator password when asked; it will not appear as you type. Check the USB name before confirming the erase prompt.
USE YOUR USB INSTALLER
Start your Mac from USB
Wait until creation finishes, then eject the USB safely. Connect it to the Mac you want to install macOS on.
Keep the Mac connected to the internet for firmware and model-specific information. On Intel Macs with a T2 chip, external startup may need to be enabled in Startup Security Utility.
